Tuesday Shoesday: A New Take on Cowboy Boots

I'm a sucker for boots so when I saw this shoe shot on Ruffled last week, I knew I had to share it.

Credits: Photographed by AbiQ Photography, spotted on Ruffled

And then I started thinking. About what? About shoe shots, specifically of his shoes - the groom's shoes.

How many times in a recap do you see the groom's shoes? Often times a groom purchases new shoes for the wedding and care has gone into the choice. So today's Tuesday Shoesday post is for the boys. Here are some shoe shots that caught my attention.

Are you planning on featuring your groom's shoes on their own? Why or why not?

Tuesday Shoesday: Booties with Ruffles

I love ruffles, peep toes, and boots. Here are some of the booties that I'm envying right now.
The Finds (left to right): Unique Vintage $34; Urban OG $25.90; Charlotte Russe $40;
Nine West $89, now $49.99; and Wet Seal $29.50.
Anybody know if they make cute booties with a heel I could walk in?

Tuesday Shoesday: New Boots

I dislike some types of shopping. This dislike is so strong that I actively avoid shopping for clothes or shoes until absolutely necessary. For example, the Franco Sarto boots I found at Community Thrift last winter replaced my favorite six-year old Nine West boots. Right now, my two favorite - most comfortable - pairs of footwear are on their last legs. My 14-year old loafers (they've been reheeled, resoled, and relined a couple of times). And, sigh, my 23-year old Laredo cowboy boots (they've been reheeled and resoled a couple of times as well).

Unlike last week where any loafer I liked wasn't available in my size by the time I made up my mind, I think I found a suitable replacement for my cowboy boots. A replacement that should last. What did I get? A pair of Frye boots.

Do you buy things to last or for a season? Any favorite brands? Any brands you hate?

When determining whether or not the boots would work, I checked a bunch of sites: 6pm, Amazon, Endless, and Zappos. Zappos (and 6pm) organizes its product information better than does Amazon, giving shaft height and diameter without you needing to click More (something I initially missed). Amazon and Endless both show snapshots of the various views of the shoe rather than making you open a separate window like Zappos.

So why did I chose Frye boots? They're leather. They have a reputation for lasting a long time if taken care of. They're made in Spain.

Tuesday Shoesday: Rain Boots

This past weekend we were in New York. The weather forecast called for rain. Thinking about rain I started thinking about rain boots - those that make a fashion statement while being comfortable. So for those times when you're splashing across the Metropolis on your honeymoon here are some options.

Tuesday Shoesday: Pretty in Pink

I know I featured these boots (my amazing Syzygryd-colored Etsy find) already. But... you know me. I LOVE LOVE boots. So here's Icka's boot shot from our playa wedding.

Burning Man 2010 (36)

Check out the shot she got of my favorite - super comfy - playa boots from last year! I'd set them to the side of the chair while I curled up with my feet under me.

Once the preparations really got started - like OMG I'm not dressed and the sun is setting - everything became a blur. Such as... I don't even remember Icka taking the shot (I'm pretty sure she asked me as I'm raising/swinging my petticoats).

I do remember the moments where I stopped to take it all in:
  • The deep breath I took after screaming for help from the carport where I was getting ready (anyone tried to get into a corseted top by themselves?) as Iris and Icka materialized in less than a blink of an eye.
  • Stopping just after we crossed Esplanade and realizing we were surrounded by our community walking us out to our Syzygryd for our wedding (walking hand in hand with cubes with all our friends who supported and loved us made what we were doing so natural, so right)
  • Scanning the horizon and seeing everyone silhouetted against the mountains right before we got started (thanks Mikest for reminding me that the light was changing every minute)
  • The look out from the scissor lift at all of our guests (all these people are here to see us get married? OMG!)

Tuesday Shoesday: Familiar Comfort

I love a bride in cowboy boots (or any boots for that matter). To me it says casual elegance - the fun comfortable boots contrasted with the elegant flowing yards of fabric or delicate lace.

Tuesday Shoesday: Boots and Lace

Being the klutz that I am, I'd never be able to walk in those gorgeous purple boots I shared earlier. So of course, my favorite (overly loved) boots are my cowboy boots. The shoes I'm wearing to our upcoming wedding? Boots of course.

Here's another bride who went with boots for her wedding. I love the contrast of the boots with the lace.

Tuesday Shoesday: M Boots

Syzygryd sports C (cyan) M (magenta) Y (yellow) colors. Her staff will be decked out in lab coats and coveralls in these colors as well as K (black).

Now many of the gals have decided to accessorize. Which means the hunt for cute boots is on. I'll be wearing my K lab coat (got an M lab coat as well) with these M beauties from the 80s. Can't beat the price - $18.
Vtg 1980s Pink Suede Liz Claiborne Boots Sz 7 M
Pink Suede Liz Claiborne Boots for $18.00 from Fleurs en Papier (Etsy)

Some M options I came across for coordinating with Syzygryd's C Y and K labcoats.
She's The Boss Boot by Zigi
$71.99 (w/10% off coupon code WINNER) at ShoeMall

Randi by Kate Spade
$125 at Zappos.com
Possibly a little too hot for the playa. But how can you go wrong? They're Kate Spade.

1460 8 Eye Boot by Dr. Martens
$129.95 at ShoeMall

Carson Pull On by FRYE
$348.00 at Zappos.com
They're FRYE - the brand preferred by DPW everywhere (well in black not magenta), so you'll know they'll be comfortable and long lasting.

DSquared2
Normally $1,004.00 - a real steal at $648 at Zappos.com
If Syzygryd ever makes the rounds at tradeshows in Vegas, these are what all the booth babes should be sporting.

Tuesday Shoesday: Playa Boots for Our Burning Man Ceremony

Out on the playa most forgo heels for chunky heels or platforms. I've got a pair of brown boots with chunky heels and black boots with a 2" platform. For our playa wedding, I'm probably going to wear my black boots. They're not in theme with Firefly, but they also don't cost any money.

But if I was looking to get some new playa boots, here are some contenders:

Demonia Wave 302
$72.95 at ShoeBuy

Dr. Martens 'Diva Dee'
$149.95 at Nordstrom

Demonia Corset Platform Wedge Knee Boot
Demonia Corset Platform Wedge (only black ribbon available)

Compulsions - Quota
$61.60 at Sketchers.com

FRYE Melissa
$377.95 at Endless.com
**SALE 1.5" Faux Leather Boots for $12.00
Too good to be true?

Okay these aren't really meant for the playa - they'd never come clean - but how cute are they? Can't justify another pair of suede boots until my current boots ($8 thrift store find) wear out.
MIA Gelato
$60.00 at 6pm.com

Next Best is Better: Suede Ankle Booties

You know me, I love boots and bootlets. Inspired by Britt's post on The Broke-Ass Bride today, I sought out to find a pair of high fashion bootlets for a low price (goal under $40).

I found an adorable set of bootlets to later discover they're Christian Louboutin-inspired! I have some shoes in my closet that cost a couple of hundred dollars but there's no way I'd pay over a thousand dollars.

The Haute Fashion Original via The Shoe Goddess:
clfifre1236luisa-insert1
Christian Louboutin Fifre 120
$1,195 from Barney's (no longer available)
The original knock off:
Steve Madden Trumpit Suede Ankle Boots, 2 Colors
Steve Madden Trumpit
$89 from Mezing

Steve Madden Trumpit
$149.95 from Endless.com
$119.99 from Piperlime
$59.98 from 6pm.com

The knock off:
Charles Albert Women's New 1347 Bootie
Charles Albert New 1347
$20.93 from Endless.com
$16.43 from Amazon.com

What You Save
If you love red bootlets, you can get the original Christian Louboutin-inspired bootlet for $89 - a savings of $1106 without tax. If you prefer black to red as I do, you can get the Christian Loubotin-inspired bootlets for $59.98 - a savings of $1135 (if you prefer leather uppers) or for $16.43 - a savings of $1178 (if man-made uppers are OK).

Have you found great deals such as this? Please share. I love a good shoe story.

Tuesday Shoesday: Boots and Bootlets

I love boots. I love bootlets. My favorite pair of shoes is a pair of 13+ year old cowboy boots. One reason I love my boots is that I'm a klutz. I'm probably the only person in the world that can slip and fall wearing athletic shoes.

For the wedding I'm wearing boots. Last night I worked on replacing the too short athletic laces that came with the boots with ribbons in our wedding colors. Here's the before - straight from Idol Vintage - and the after.

What do you think?

In honor of Shoesday Tuesday and my love of boots and bootlets, here are some of the boots I'm craving.
